I just signed the petition “Miranda Rosin: Help to Keep Galatea Creek Water in Kananaskis Country” and wanted to see if you could help by adding your name.

Our goal is to reach 25,000 signatures and we need more support. You can read more and sign the petition here:

The removal of 50 million litres of water annually from Galatea Creek in Kananaskis Country for transportation to a bottling facility in Calgary has been approved.  This approval was sought by Fortress Mountain Ski Hill and given the green light by Alberta Environment and Parks.

This action has been approved despite many letters of opposition being written by concerned community members and the Alberta Wilderness Association (AWA).  Concerns for the mammal ecosystem and future impacts on water supply and forest fires have gone unheeded.

Further concerns about the impact of bottling water in this day and age have also gone unheeded.  At a time when much of the world is taking steps to reduce carbon footprint and reduce plastic packaging, many are wondering why a project such as this is being allowed to proceed.

We should not be allowing the removal of water from a small mountain stream (which naturally flows into a protected area in the Bow River basin headwaters) to be transported (at the rate of thousands of truckloads per year), bottled and further packaged.

Water being collected, transported and packaged in this way does not create a cleaner lifestyle than drinking municipal water.
